Light of Hope Bangladesh

The project in Bangladesh
Light of Hope plans to open a chapter in Bangladesh in 2010. Our business partner Syed Mizanur Rahman will be in charge of this office.
Syed was born in 1978 in the village Chalitada, Thana, Palashbair in the Gaibandha districs in Bangladesh. It is a very small village. The family was poor, his father worked as a school teacher and his mother was a house wife. They have a large family and the father was the only one bringing in money to support them. Syed has 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
He got his primary education in Photapur Durgapur Primary School from 1983 to 1987. The school had 5 teachers, 175 students and 35 students in his class. He then went to high school at Palash S.M. Pilot High School where his father was working.
From 1994 he went to to Palashbari Government College and studied science. He got his Bachelor`s Degree from National University of Bangladesh. In 2001 he got his Master`s Degree at the same university. Now he works as a senior officer  in the commercial section at Spintex Technology Limited.
Syed knows what it is like to grow up in poverty. Now he wants to do something to help the present and next generation in his home country Bangladesh. Syed Mizanur Rahman lives with his wife Shafia Siddique. They have a baby daughter together named Syeda Shadia Siddikah.

CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international alliance of members and partners which constitute an influential network of organisations at the local, national, regional and international levels, and span the spectrum of civil society including: civil society networks and organisations; trade unions; faith-based networks; professional associations; NGO capacity development organisations; philanthropic foundations and other funding bodies; businesses; and social responsibility programmes. CIVICUS has worked for over a decade to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens' freedom of association are threatened. CIVICUS has a vision of a global community of active, engaged citizens committed to the creation of a more just and equitable world. This is premised on the belief that the health of societies exists in direct proportion to the degree of balance between the state, the private sector and civil society.
CIVICUS provides a focal point for knowledge-sharing, common interest representation, global institution-building and engagement among these disparate sectors. It acts as an advocate for citizen participation as an essential component of governance and democracy worldwide. CIVICUS seeks to amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people and it gives expression to the enormous creative energy of the burgeoning sector of civil society.

CIVICUS is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world.

A worldwide community of informed, inspired, committed citizens engaged in confronting the challenges facing humanity.

CIVICUS seeks to amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people. It recognizes that for effective and sustainable civic participation to occur, citizens must enjoy rights of free association and be able to engage all sectors of society.

Justice and Equality - CIVICUS believes in the equality and dignity of every person, and that all people should be free to exercise their rights as citizens as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Reciprocity - CIVICUS exists to ensure that people treat one another with the respect with which they themselves wish to be treated. Civil society cannot thrive without mutual respect.
Knowledge - CIVICUS recognises that to increase its global awareness of civil society and before it can assist or take action, it needs to form alliances with other concerned bodies to increase its influence and knowledge.
Vision - CIVICUS is realistic about conflict in today's world, but remains optimistic that most people, organisations, governments and businesses will work together for the benefit of all.
Principled Courage - CIVICUS will always promote civil justice and pledges to act in a manner that honours the principles of democratic civil society.

The three main objectives that inform our mission are:
Civic Existence - to promote the rights of citizens to organise and act collectively towards defined goals for the public good.
Civic Expression - to increase the effectiveness and improve the governance of civil society organisations, as well as their capacity to set and achieve their individual and collective goals.
Civic Engagement - Engagement - to foster interaction between civil society and other institutions in order to increase the voice of citizens in public life.

World Art Foundation

"The world art foundation is an organization of professional artists that deals with the characteristics of art, its nucleus being the strength of all its combined elements and principles.

We as professional artists and members of WAF, congregate under one banner to form a unified art industry.

Free from the restrictions of geographical barriers, the men and women of WAF unite with the commonalities of the universal language of art. We are people from every city, every country joined together for the betterment of our craft, networking and sharing our knowledge to sharpen our artistic skills and expand our scope of opportunities.

A borderless nation of artists like no other nation; a global nation
dedicated to transforming the profession, the industry and the world into a
better place.

YES! We are the men and women of WAF.

The World Art Foundation strongly believes that to lead the art world you
must serve it well. It must take on the responsibility of its education, the
betterment and the well being of the artist, and most importantly, it must
advocate that the destiny of the profession must be given back to the
professional artist where it really belongs.

WAF has assembled the world’s finest professionals and respected artists.

Together we challenge any system designed to separate this association.

We reject anyone who seeks to divide us. We unite under the standard of affirmative action to build a new and better profession. Together with our technical, educational and organizational resources, we are creating a new profession that works like a business.

Together we think long term, with clear, measurable goals. We seek to
restore dignity and confidence of the profession of artists.

The men and women of the WAF are assertive in their leadership position and
are equipped with the inquisitiveness, the desire and the knowledge to make
things happen for the better. The energy of their efforts creates a powerful
movement, with the distinct possibility of transforming the profession, the
industry and the world into a better place."
